Life is chaotic and busy, and anything we can get our hands on to make our lives easier, we often do. We let Alexa turn on music and do our Amazon ordering for us. We spend millions on gadgets each year that simplify processes like Apple Watch and Roomba. So, it shouldn’t be a surprise that there are countless life hacks that easy daily life. We’ve compiled a list of 10 life hacks that everyone should be using.
1. Smartphone in a cup
Heavy sleeper? Drop your phone into a glass cup, speakers down, and crank the volume up. The cup creates a natural speaker effect that will amplify the sound and get you out of bed.
2. Delete tourists from your photos
Photoshop has the absolute coolest tools for photo editing, and this one is definitely in the top. Set your camera up on a tripod facing the image you want. Take a picture about every 10 seconds until you have at least 15 images. Open all the photos by going to Photoshop and going to File > Scripts > Statistics and select median and your files. Photoshop finds the differences between the photos and automatically removes them creating an image without tourists!
3. Find a hole in your tire
Do like the professionals do and use soap and water to find a hole in your tire. Fill the tire full of air then get it wet and soapy. The air leak will blow bubbles, so you can easily find the hole for a patch…unless it’s on the sidewall, then you need to replace it.
4. Unclog your sink organically
You don’t need to pour heavy chemicals down your sink to unclog it. Add a half cup of baking soda and a cup of vinegar to the sink. Once you stop seeing the foam reaction, rinse it out and you’re done.
5. Remove permanent marker from anything
Getting permanent marker on anything is frustrating! Here are the best ways to remove it from different materials:
- Hand sanitizer on clothes
- Toothpaste or hairspray on walls
- Rubbing alcohol on wood
- White vinegar on carpet
- Milk on furniture
- Dry erase marker or rubber eraser on dry erase boards
- 1 part toothpaste and 1 part baking soda on ceramics
Apply the ingredient, let it sit for a moment, then rub it off. It may take some elbow grease, and be sure you rinse it when you’re done!
6. Stop ads while you play games on your phone
Nobody except the game companies like ads while playing games. The interruption is annoying. If you want the ads to quit, put your phone on airplane mode while you play.
7. Use a muffin pan to serve condiments at a get-together
If you want to up your BBQ game, make your table look nicer, or make condiments easier to get, use a muffin pan to organize the tasty add-ons. You can squirt mustard, ketchup, and mayo into separate sections then add cut onions, pickles, and tomatoes to the others.
8. Waterproof your shoes
To get a good waterproofing on shoes, apply beeswax liberally over all parts of the outside of the shoe. Then get out the blow dryer to seal it. Melt the wax down a bit, let it cool, and voila! Waterproof shoes.
9. Make ice in your cooler last longer
The magic ingredient for this life hack is salt. Salt lowers the melting point of ice which means it takes longer for it to liquify. After you put ice in your cooler, pour some salt over it and then put in your drinks. Your ice will last longer and keep your drinks cooler.
10. Flatten beef before freezing
If you buy your beef in bulk, you probably also separate it to freeze it. When it’s time to unthaw it, you have to set it out overnight in the fridge or for several hours on the counter. You can reduce the wait time if you flatten beef into a sheet. Place the beef in a freezer-safe ziplock bag and squish it until it is a thin sheet. This will also save you room in your freezer! Once you pull it out, it will take a much shorter time to that than it would have as a lump.
